Sound System FAQs

How do we use live sound in Zoom?

We use a single output from the live mixing console. The signal is then routed into an audio interface.

How do we amplify the audio coming from Zoom participants?

To amplify Zoom participants, we run a single output from the AV computer. The signal is routed through the mixing console to the amplifiers.

How do we prevent a feedback loop?

It is critical that the live mix does not re-route participants into the Zoom room. This will lead to a feedback loop (or a prominent echo, depending on whether delay is added for video synchronization).

Thus, the live mix should send its signal minus the channel which is amplifying Zoom participants. This can be accomplished with a submix or other means.

How do we prevent a feedback loop in the sanctuary?

The sanctuary uses a submix to avoid the Zoom feedback loop. The audio cable which connects to the AV booth receives the A1 submix.

How can we fine-tune the Zoom audio?

In the sanctuary, the A1 submix can be adjusted on a per-channel basis. While EQ cannot be adjusted in the submix, each channel’s levels can be adjusted prior to being sent out.

The Zoom signal should always remain muted.
