Membership

If you are interested in joining in the formal work of “being the church” at Hopewell Presbyterian, the Session and the Deacons invite you to consider becoming a member.

What is membership?

Care

When you join, you make sure you are on the church’s radar, officially signing up for the full care of the church and for community life.

Growth

By placing yourself under the discipleship and discipline of the church, you will experience mutual relationships of accountability with others in the church body, positioning yourself for growth in community.

Responsibility

Members play a vital role in the government of the church through voting on church budgets and through electing church officers.

Leadership

Membership is also are requisite to serve the church as an officer—deacon or elder.

Membership Process

To prepare for this we offer the support of a new members cohort. This cohort shares and learnes about what it means to be a follower of Jesus and specifically one who is Presbyterian and a member at Hopewell Presbyterian Church.  To start this process, reach out to the church office.

Christian

New Member education class explores what it means to be a follower of Jesus by focusing on the foundations of our faith. All those seeking membership will be asked to join this or another study group to learn (alongside others in the HPC community) about what it means to be Christian.

All new members who have participated in the education will have a chance to meet their Deacon and Elder of Care, as well as participate in a Q & A Session about Hopewell Presbyterian Church, and a tour of the church building. Finally, new members will be formally received by the representatives of Session.

After the above, we will celebrate the new members as they are received by the congregation in Sunday worship!
